Coldstones Cut - Yorkshire

Coldstones Cut

Coldstone Cut

High atop the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), near the charming town of Pateley Bridge, lies Coldstones Cut. This impressive landmark, created by artist Andrew Sabin, boasts the title of Yorkshire’s biggest piece of public art. Free to explore, Coldstones Cut is a unique blend of sculpture and landscape.

Winding paths lead you through this massive construction, crafted from both contemporary and ancient stone. As you explore, you'll be treated to ever-changing perspectives of the vast Coldstones Quarry below, a working quarry that offers a glimpse into Yorkshire's industrial heritage. But the views don't stop there. Platforms within the sculpture provide breathtaking panoramas across the Nidderdale countryside, perfect for capturing on camera.

Here are some additional facts you might find interesting:

  • Coldstones Cut stands at an impressive 1,375 feet above sea level, making it the highest piece of public art in Yorkshire.
  • The sculpture was commissioned by Nidderdale Visual Arts and Hanson Aggregates, the company that runs the Coldstones Quarry.
  • Completed in late 2009, Coldstones Cut is a relatively new landmark, but has quickly become a popular attraction in the Yorkshire Dales.
