Old Park Farm: A Forgotten Piece of History

Old Park Farm is a derelict farmstead located in the Stanley Ferry area of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. The farm dates back to at least the early 19th century, and was once a thriving business. However, the farm has been abandoned for many years, and is now in a state of disrepair.

The farmstead consists of a number of buildings, including a farmhouse, a barn, and a number of outbuildings. The farmhouse is a two-storey building with a slate roof. The barn is a large, single-storey building with a corrugated iron roof. The outbuildings are a variety of smaller buildings, including a chicken coop, a pig sty, and a stable.

The farmstead is surrounded by a number of trees and shrubs. The trees provide a canopy of shade, and the shrubs provide a habitat for a variety of wildlife. The farm is home to a number of birds, including pigeons, sparrows, and robins. It is also home to a number of mammals, including rabbits, squirrels, and mice.

Old Park Farm is a forgotten piece of history. The farm is a reminder of a time when Wakefield was a rural community. The farm is also a reminder of the importance of agriculture in the development of Wakefield.

The future of Old Park Farm is uncertain. The farm is currently owned by Wakefield Council, and the council has not yet decided what to do with the property. Some people have suggested that the farm should be demolished, while others have suggested that the farm should be restored. It is possible that the farm will be used for housing, or that it will be used for a community project.

Whatever the future holds for Old Park Farm, it is a place that is worth preserving. The farm is a reminder of the past, and it is a place that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

Did you know that Old Park Farm was also featured in the Harry Potter films? In the film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, nine eagle owls owned by professional falconer Ken Lea were used to portray the Hippogriff Buckbeak. Lea had a falconry centre at Old Park Farm, and the owls were filmed on location at the farm.

This is just one of the many interesting stories that surround Old Park Farm. The farm is a place with a rich history, and it is a place that is worth exploring (NOTE: There is now a sign saying no entry, so may be best exploring with a drone).

The place is great to take photos if you like that type of thing, it was a bright and sunny day when I went but imagine that you could get some atmospheric shots at different times.

Location of Old Park Farm in Wakefield

Here is a Google Map, so you can zoom out and get your bearings. There is a car-park just next to it, although they have put a sign up now, saying private property. If you don't fancy looking at this, you could have a short walk to look at Wakefield Hydroelectrical Power station which is also here.
